MetroPCS takes a cue from Verizon, appeals FCC's net neutrality code

It's not just Big Red taking issue with the FCC's final stance on net neutrality, which shouldn't come as much of a surprise -- landline and wireless operators tend to do a pretty good job harmonizing their opinions on regulatory issues, and net neutrality is about as big of a regulatory issue as you're going to get. Next up to drop the legal hammer is MetroPCS, filing this week with the Washington, D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals and saying that it wants to make sure "the concerns of competitive wireless carriers, like MetroPCS, are addressed." Interestingly, the company specifically calls out net neutrality complaints against its new 4G plans -- which stratify non-browser data usage as a separate category with its own bucket -- as one of the reasons it's filing the appeal; separately, the carrier says that it's going to formally respond to those complaints next month, so it's clearly not ready to back down and rethink its LTE strategy. It'll be interesting to see how this all plays out.

Ever wish you could get a Verizon-labeled phone running on AT&T, and do it with full bars and a 3G no less? Get yourself one of the Dodge's new and free virtual product manuals, available now for iPhone and soon coming to BlackBerry and Android. They're a continuation of the sort of thing Chrysler announced back at CES, just letting you view information about your vehicle and maybe some aftermarket parts too. They're available now for the Durango and Charger, with coverage for the Avenger, Journey, and Grand Caravan coming before the end of the month. Full details about the apps in the PR below, but sadly no information on exactly where we should stick the SIM card in our Droid.

Robot camel jockeys found packing illegal stun guns, Dubai police say 'Don't tase them bro!'

It's been awhile since we've talked about the remote controlled robot jockeys used in Arabian camel racing, but a recent scandal that has rocked the camel-racing world compels us to revisit the topic. The Dubai police discovered that some shady characters have been selling robot jockeys equipped with stun guns to "encourage" camels to run faster. We're pretty sure that the animals don't need any more incentive to run -- they already have a robot whipping them -- and it's good to see that the powers-that-be agree with us, as the two men selling the machines were arrested. Now that our dromedary friends need no longer fear being tased in the name of sport, we only have to worry about over-zealous peace officers using them on all of us.

RealPlayer for Android gets an improved interface, landscape mode, and more

The RealPlayer app for Android has gotten a major update, and it's all because of user input! OK, so Real may be playing that angle up a bit in its official blog post, but it's clear from playing with the updated media app that it's taking suggestions and criticism seriously.

In addition to a generally improved and more polished interface, RealPlayer for Android has added a landscape "now playing" mode and playlist support (music only for now). There's also a new homescreen widget that allows you to skip forward or back, pause, and resume playback. Tapping the track information zips you back to the player. You can also now tap and hold a song, video, or image to delete it from your device.

Some features are still missing -- I'd like to be able to share what I'm listening to from the Now Playing view, for example. I'd also appreciate something happening when I tap the search button on my Incredible. With a large media collection on your device, built-in search in RealPlayer would be a major bonus. Real seems determined to deliver an app that will be worth using, so it's likely these features -- and any others suggested by the community -- will arrive in a future update.
